Case Study

Panasonic TOUGHBOOK

Case study bringing history to life through PR for Panasonic Toughbook and the Royal Mint Museum

Overview

Panasonic Toughbook and The Royal Mint Museum collaborated on a meaningful initiative designed to help care home residents reconnect with memories of decimalisation, marking its 50th anniversary. The project combined physical artefacts with innovative technology to create an immersive reminiscence experience.

You Do Better Ltd was brought in to support the PR. This included delivering widespread media coverage, ensuring the story reached both national and niche audiences, while reflecting the sensitivity and value of the project.

The challenge

The campaign required careful handling due to its emotional and historical significance. In addition, there was a need to clearly communicate a multi-partnership project involving technology as well as heritage and the care sector.

Key challenges included translating a complex initiative into a clear and engaging story. In addition, balancing brand visibility with educational purpose. Plus ensuring an appropriate tone for care home audiences and securing meaningful coverage rather than generic press distribution.

The approach

You Do Better took a hands-on, strategic approach to PR delivery. Not simply a standard press release to fully manage the narrative and rollout.

This included understanding both brands and their audiences. Then crafting a compelling press release centred on human impact and storytelling. Furthermore, it was important to position the ‘Museum in a Box’ concept as both innovative and emotionally engaging as well as manage targeted media distribution across relevant sectors.

The press release highlights how the experience worked. It combined tactile objects with audio-trigger technology supported by donated Toughbook tablets, while keeping the focus on the residents’ experience.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the Royal Mint Museum has created a boxed experience to recount the memories of people who lived through decimalisation.

BRACKNELL, UK. 16th December 2021 – Working with care homes across the United Kingdom to run reminiscence sessions, the Royal Mint Museum and Panasonic have teamed up to create a unique experience for residents with a special box of memories to mark 50 years since decimalisation.

The session takes the form of a ‘Museum in a Box’, which contains replicas and original objects from the time for people to handle. Each object is fitted with a special micro-chip which, when placed on the box, play audio clips specific to that object. Panasonic were able to support the experience by donating 50 TOUGHBOOK tablets for the residents to be able to enjoy the experience further.

Section 2

Bethan James, from the Royal Mint Museum, says: “The boxes can be a fun and stimulating activity, giving people who lived through the changeover an opportunity to talk about their memories.”

Those interested, have the opportunity to loan the boxes completely free of charge, with the boxes being quarantined and disinfected between each loan.

Bethan continues: “We’re very grateful to Panasonic for their support with this project and their generosity has ensured that as many positive experiences and smiles as possible will continue to be enjoyed.”

Kevin Jones, Director of Operations, Mobile Solutions Business Division Europe, agrees: “What an amazing initiative to be involved with! The Panasonic team are delighted to be able to donate TOUGHBOOK tablets to support these sessions and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the project – it really has been a golden experience.”

Testimonial

Ruby and her PAYG PR Model are amazing!

We had a unique project which required special attention & handling and Ruby did the job perfectly. From quickly getting up to speed on our brand and our goals to project managing the majority of the project- which was above and beyond what was expected. But Ruby took it on with gusto and -It was executed perfectly!

Couldn’t recommend Ruby more highly!
