Case Study

G Herbert Banks

Establishing and sustaining a premium digital presence through ongoing strategic management

Since 2021, You Do Better has worked alongside G Herbert Banks to establish and maintain a cohesive digital strategy across multiple channels. What began as a transformation project has evolved into ongoing partnership, combining SEO optimisation, organic and paid social media, website management, and regular strategic reviews to support consistent growth.

The challenge

G Herbert Banks is a highly regarded, multi-discipline firm of chartered surveyors and estate agents operating across sales, lettings, commercial and agricultural property in Worcestershire. With a portfolio of high-value properties and teams spanning surveying, valuations, and agency across multiple departments, maintaining consistent messaging across digital channels is a continuous challenge.

Without dedicated in-house resource, consistency naturally suffers. Multiple team members posting to social media, a website that requires ongoing technical maintenance and content updates, organic and paid activity running in parallel. Each element demands expertise and time. The risk is that these channels sit in isolation, working against each other rather than together.

The need wasn’t for a one-off project, but for ongoing outsourced marketing management working alongside the team and existing assets. A partner who understood the business, could coordinate across departments, keep standards consistent, and continuously improve performance across all channels.

The strategy

We implemented a comprehensive, multi-channel approach designed to work as an integrated system, combining digital channels with targeted traditional media.

SEO & Technical Foundation

A full audit identified technical issues and content gaps. We systematically fixed crawl errors, rewrote meta descriptions, resolved H1 heading issues, and optimised page speed. This created the technical foundation for ongoing organic growth.

Social Media: Organic & Paid

We established clear posting guidelines aligned to the John Lewis/Waitrose brand standard GHB operates to. This meant restrained emoji, editorial captions, branded visuals, consistent hashtags, and a named call to action. Every team member knew the tone and could support content creation.

Organic social built trust and visibility within the community. Paid social extended reach beyond existing followers to generate new enquiries and drive traffic.

Website Management & Hosting

Ongoing technical maintenance, content updates, and monthly monitoring ensured the website stayed current, secure and performant.

Targeted Direct Mail

We supported the digital strategy with a targeted Royal Mail leaflet drop across North Worcestershire, reaching potential buyers and sellers in key areas.

Bi-Monthly Strategy Meetings

Regular check-ins kept the strategy aligned with business priorities, reviewed performance, and planned seasonal campaigns.

The results

Over five years of ongoing support, GHB has achieved significant growth across every channel.

SEO Performance (August 2026)

  • 6,406 total monthly visits (up 34.41% year-on-year)
  • 2,939 organic visits (up 6.52% YoY)
  • 556 ranking keywords (up 57.95% YoY)
  • 89 keywords ranking in positions #1-#10 (up 85.42% YoY)
  • Organic traffic now accounts for 45.4% of total website visits

Digital Presence

Traffic breakdown shows a healthy mix: 45.4% organic, 28.7% referral, 23.5% direct. This demonstrates that GHB’s website is being discovered naturally through search, shared by partners and previous clients, and directly accessed by repeat visitors.

Team Impact

The consistent social media guidelines and regular content cadence means the whole team can support marketing activity. As Stacey Bailey, Lettings Manager at GHB, notes: “I met Ruby and started working alongside her at my current place of employment dealing with all things PR. I have to say she has been absolutely fabulous! She is always there, nothing is ever too much of a problem and is quick to action what she says.”

Leadership Perspective

Richard Banks, Partner at GHB, reflects on the transformation: “Ruby has transformed our marketing creating a much increased digital media presence. Not a week will pass without someone positively commenting on our content. And most importantly it works!”

What this means for estate agencies

These results demonstrate the power of treating digital marketing as an integrated system rather than isolated activities. GHB’s growth hasn’t come from a single campaign or channel. It’s come from consistent, strategic management across SEO, social media, website optimisation, and regular strategic planning.

The inclusion of the entire team in content creation (through clear guidelines and accessible processes) means marketing becomes embedded in day-to-day operations. Social media isn’t a burden handed to one person; it’s something the team actively supports.

The five-year partnership shows that transformation isn’t a one-off project. Sustained growth requires ongoing monitoring, adaptation and support as business priorities shift and algorithms change.

As Caroline Morse, Senior Negotiator at GHB, reflects: “Having the services of You Do Better & in particular Ruby has been great, always available to help where needed, providing useful information and advice, along with her expert team.”

What’s next

The solid foundations built over five years create a strong platform for the work ahead. Video content, whether short-form reels or full property walkarounds, continues to be an opportunity worth exploring as viewing habits shift. Seasonal campaign planning keeps the strategy responsive to key moments in the property market cycle. And ongoing testing of audience segmentation and messaging on paid social helps refine where every pound is spent.

This is the nature of ongoing marketing partnership: the work evolves as the business evolves, always building on what’s already working.
