Keeping up with the conversations | Kevin Powell

Keeping up with the conversations is a regular article following up on our monthly feature with business leaders across Worcestershire in County Lifestyle and Leisure Magazine. Keeping up with the conversations is a chance to catch up on the news with previous interviewees.

This month we hear from Kevin Powell:

18 months on, while somethings remain the same, much has changed. When the alarm clock goes off my first thoughts remain whose turn is it to make the tea, always hopeful that it’s my wife’s! We always watch Breakfast News on the BBC to see what’s happening in the world, after that our lives have very much changed.

COVID 19 has impacted on all our lives, many organisations like the Ambassadors have rightly postponed events until society returns to the new normal, whatever that will look like. I’m still very proud to be a Worcestershire Ambassador, after my stint as Chair I have now  moved on to the back benches with my predecessors.

Worcestershire remains a great place to live, it says a lot about us Worcestershire folk, the way we have adapted to the situation and complied with the governments instructions. I honestly believe the County will quickly bounce back as we move through this crisis.

Sport is very much my passion, yes I am missing the football, as a life long Leeds supporter I hope we get to play in the premier league next season, I miss watching the Warriors  and especially at this time of year I am missing not going to Blackfinch New Road to watch the County “win”. However missing a few months of sport is a small sacrifice if it keeps us safe and helps reduce the impact of COVID-19.

Yes I still would have liked to have been a spaceman but spending more time at home means not only is our garden looking good but I am able to catch up on the recent Star Trek series (much to my wife’s delight) and I alternate between dog walking and cycling as my daily exercise. Like many Ambassadors I was planning to take on the Gheluvelt to Gheluvelt cycle challenge later this year, I really hope to still cycle it when it’s rearranged in 2021.

FaceTime / Houseparty has suddenly became the way to keep in touch with friends and family, but when this is over I am looking forward to a pint of beer with my friends! My current major achievement is that I’ve not put on any weight, despite rediscovering my love of cooking, and after weeks of lockdown even the garden shed been cleaned. Overall, I’m very grateful to be healthy.
