I made a mistake

Yesterday I made a mistake. Today, I owned the resolution.

By doing so (I think) I demonstrated that I was accountable and responsible for a problem. That it showed acumen, integrity and honesty.

I didn’t lose my clients – either of them. I believe I gained their trust.

In fact, more often than not, I find that reasonable people realise when a mistake has been made and owning up to it helps resolves the problem – or at least goes some way to doing so.

I’ve also found that not owning up to a mistake – or blaming others – simply adds fuel to the fire.

So, when you’ve made a mistake (and we all do!) don’t try to deny it. As soon as you realise it’s you (or your team) that’s dropped the ball, don’t make excuses. Pick it up. Own it.

Oh. And work with good, reasonable and like-minded people!

My clients are awesome. Thank you.
